Photovember: Photo + Story: Sweet Rain

November 1, 2010

Wendy and I went to visit a neighborhood with traditional Korean houses near Insadong. Near the area are lots of little boutique shops and galleries, perfect for a sunny day's walk. Before we even got to the heart of this area, I saw and older house with a sign promoting an installation, "Sweet Rain". Aside from the sign, there was a huge bookcase stacked with perfectly white galoshes and a coat rack full with clean, seemingly freshly pressed yellow raincoats. We were given umbrellas then went downstairs to have a downpour of candied raindrops shower on us. I was the only one to work up the courage to taste it.

Huh? Rain inside the building? Isthat lead paint on the ceiling? Is the sweet rain poured from a melted cotton candy vat……? And even if that is so it is leaking from plaster, building wood, paint, ……Please advise mor?!

I’m sure the system was sound. I’m still alive aren’t I? …that being said, I probably would gather the drops into buckets and drink from it. It was really just sugar water from a very clean looking contraption. Clean looking, PLASTIC contraption.
